Informant #1755: I have two answers to # 5. Ideological orientation and pyshological perceptions. |
Informant #1775: In today's world, you need access to the raw and refined resources. The majority of the world's resources (like oil and minerals) is in non-white areas, however, the manufactoring of those resources is in predominately white countries. This affects who get paid for it and how much they get paid for it. |
Informant #1814: Some tie rasicm to power and believe that one can only be considered racist if he/she has the "power" to restrain or hold back. I beleive you can be racist whether you have any power at all. |
Informant #2242: If you have money most people are willing to look past your race. The only thing is acquiring the money which is harder when you don't have the privilege of White skin. |
Informant #2264: I strongly agree that race is a social construct, but because society gives it such importance, it does matter. Racism is a matter of an individual treating another individual a certain way (whether postitively or negatively) based on race. That treatment begins with the individuals perceptions. |
Informant #2329: ignorance; lack of knowledge about a particular ehtnic group or race |
Informant #29654: fear is an underlying component of racism, and fear can be used, manipulated or be a powerful drive |
Informant #59036: Ideological orientation |
Informant #67431: Racism is the construct of Minorities' immaginations and behavior. |
Informant #101749: I think it's both a factor of "Ideological orientation" and "psychological perceptions". I think race only really "counts" if you have cultural ties. (ex. someone who immigrated to the U.S. from Vietnam has more of a racial identity than a Vietnamese-American whose family has been in the U.S. for several generations.) Racism is a problem, but I also think that sometimes minorities let it be a problem or are quick to blame racism as the problem. That is, they let themselves be constrained by race. |
Informant #275242: I believe that both economic power and psychological perceptions are main factors of racism. |
Informant #431830: It depends on the person and why they feel the way they do. |
